Good evening all,We have been asked by the Long Bennington's Women's Institute if we would be prepared to play at their Birthday Party on Tuesday 2 June 2015 at Long Bennington Village Hall. The gig would be from 8.15pm to 9.15pm.  They would be happy with two 20 minute sets with a 20 minute break between during which we would be offered a "finger buffet". Please let me know by 1 April if you are willing to attend.Bob
Would have been willing as always, but unfortunately we are way that week.

For info here is an image of the Lincoln Green Ukulele Birthday Cake that we will be presenting to the Lincoln Ukulele Band at their Birthday Bash tomorrow.

Possible new gig.We have been asked if we would perform at The Troc Care Home, Beacon Hill Road, Newark on Saturday 20th June starting at 3.00pm.
The event is their Summer Hog Roast.  They would appreciate 2 sets of approximate 20/30 minutes each and as on our past visits to them they will feed us between sets.  They have always been good hosts and obviously appreciate what we do so it would be great if we could go.
To enable me to reply I would appreciate it if band members could let me know by this Thursday (23rd April) if you are willing and available to attend.

Finally the group has two black group Polo shirts available for anyone who would like one.  One is a size Large the other an Extra Large.  First come first served!

Now it's back to the sunshine and the gardening!Bob
Count me in

Hi everybody.  I’ve been tinkering around with Something by George Harrison, and I though it might be useful to look at this as an arrangement at our next improver’s session.
Frank Sinatra called Something the greatest love song of the past 50 years.  It’s one of the gems of the Beatles catalogue and one of a handful of Beatles songs that was written by George Harrison.
Harrison was a superb guitarist and the guitar solo included in the song was acclaimed by many pundits at the time.  A feature of the song is what’s known as walk ups and walk downs.  It might be useful just to practice the chord progressions at the beginning and the end of the song.
Please don’t be intimidated by the number of the chords. You will find most of them feature in the chord progressions, and some are only played for a single transitional note.
Eg.
(F) Da (F^) da (F) da (Bb) daaaaa (G7) daaaaaa (C) daaa
You should be familiar with the rif.  It is an ascending chord progression popularly known as a walk up and it’s used as a transition between verses.
There’s also a walk down as a transition between line two and three of the verses.
(F) Da (C6^) da (D) da.
It’s good stuff! The thing to remember with a song like this is to give it plenty of space.  There’s no hurry, so just take your time and enjoy it.

The set Lists for this coming Wednesday (6 May 15) are published in the Set List Page.  Please note that there are 2 lists (I couldn't get them all in one) and they will hopefully be the songs for the Long Bennington gig on Tue 2 June.  If anyone can't print/download a copy of the song sheets please let me know and I'll bring them one on Wednesday.

Band BBQ.  Thanks to David N the Balderton Scout Hut and ground has been provisionally booked  for this event on either Sat 15 Aug or Sun 16 Aug PM from lunch time onwards.  The date selected will be that which suits the majority of members.  More details to follow but I would be grateful if you could let me know which date you prefer.

I've been working on a tab for :-
Its a Working Man I am - tab
Try practicing a bit of picking on this tune.  It's quite easy as most of the notes you form are in the chord shape of G.  In fact your first finger (the one you hold down the third  string on the second fret) only moves briefly to form the other chords.  For the rest of the time it stays where it is and become a useful anchor for the rest of the tune.

Incidentally, the green notes are there as a transition between the lines.  They are purely decorative and can be dropped without any great loss to the tune.

Well done to all for yesterday's session.  I thoroughly enjoyed it and hope others did as well.  It is a pleasure to cross the county border to participate.

I got home where an email from David N awaited.  He was asking on behalf of the Balderton Scout Group if we would be prepared to play a 20 minute slot between 2pm-4pm at their Gala Day on Sunday 13th September.  I think it would be a good idea and repay their hospitality in allowing us to use their facilities for the August BBQ.  I have therefore provisionally accepted on behalf of the group.  Apparently we will be sharing the bill with the likes of a local infants school choir, and a dog demonstration team!

Please check your diaries in due course and if able to attend start practising your "Ging Gang Goolie"!

Bob

We have a new feature to the website.
When you call up a song you get a grey menu box on the right hand side of the screen.
In that menu box you now get:-

PRINT  14 | 16 | 20 | 24 | 28

Click on any of these and you will get a display of what is going to be printed and also a print dialogue box.  The numbers indicate a choice of character size.  The default size is 16, but chose any of the others and the display will reflect the choice.

If you wish to go ahead you click on OK, and if you are not satisfied with the text size click on Cancel and you will be taken back to selected song where you can choose again.
Not that I print much, but I like it anyway.

As tomorrow's meeting is probably the last before the Long Bennington Gig we will concentrate on the programme for that event.  Therefore please bring along the two 20 May Set Lists.  Also "Colours", "Morning Town Ride" and "You are my sunshine" for possible "Warm Ups".

Andy has agreed to defer his “Improvers Group” this week to allow one more rehearsal before next Tuesday’s gig at Long Bennington.  I therefore hope that the majority of those who are intending to play at LB will be able to attend Wednesday’s session when the programme will mainly be a practice of the programme for Tue 2 June.

Please note that there have been number of minor changes to that programme, including revised versions of certain numbers.  The programme is in the Set List.  If you have any problems getting a copy of the tunes please let me know.

Sorry Bob cant make Wed but will make the 2nd am practising on my travels but would appreciate any add ons

I've just had a look at the copy of Lazy River posted 21st May and I noticed a couple of things that I think need need amending.  The first is that there is a chord of C missing immediately after the F#dim Chord. It should read:-

(F)Blue skies up a-(F#dim)bove, (C)everyone's in (A7)love;

The other thing is about the chord progression at the end of the first verse. If you played that line using a higher inversion of C then you could just slide that chord shape up the neck to go down form C^ to B and then to Bb.  Also I do believe that B and Bb are played as a turn around at the end of the line so it should look more like:-

(C^)throw away your troubles, dream a dream with me (B)(Bb)
(A7)Up a lazy river.... etc.

Unless I receive any rabied descent on this I intend to amend the file over the weekend.
