I really enjoyed the gig yesterday, think it was one of the best we have done. Well done everybody.  Special thanks to Bob for keeping all our recalcitrant noses to the grindstone in rehearsals, Christine for her sterling roadie actvities with the PA (which seems to work well), and Tony for his rock steady bass lines which both gave us more depth of sound and as importantly kept us all together really well. Have a relaxing Sunday
Steady on David, I will not be able to get my  hat on.
I also enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone, well done.

Thanks to all those who played at Allington on Saturday - probably our best performance to date.  So give yourselves a big pat on the back.  Nothing but good comments received from those who heard us and I have received two requests for the band to return to the village for other engagements – one later in the year (Sep?) and the other in 2017!  More details when received.

Could have done without the need to rejig the setup to allow the ‘olde worlde’ dancers to perform – but that’s show business!  Many thanks to all those who helped strip out and load up the equipment – Christine and I could have done with your help when we got home!  I thought I had left manhandling of PA equipment behind in my youth!

Diary is being updated today.  NB Date for the TROC BBQ has had to change (now 18 Jun or 2 Jul).  Please let me know on Wednesday which date is preferred.  Beaumond House have also asked if we could play for them so I’m visiting there on Wednesday to discuss the possibility.  Result of the meeting will be notified in due course.

Play list for this Wednesday is on this site.  Please add to it:

Spoof Boredom Folsom Prison Blues ( Song sheet used at Allington)
In the good old summertime*
Summertime Blues*
Let’s uke again*
Glory of love (From 2015 Lincoln Uke Festival Song Book (available in the library)
The sun has got his hat on (Song sheet available on Wednesday)

Hopefully this selection should give us a rest from most of the County Show numbers, a selection to choose 3 from for the June U3A meeting and a few others to try.

*Song sheets available in "Songs from ther sites" list.

The Glory of love is now on the Songs from other sites
jefft - 25-04-16

Lots of B flats on Summertime Blues. Single strokes with fast changes. :-)
paddy - 26-04-16

Quick changes but no key change :(
Just added "Ukulele (Hallelujah Spoof)" to  Songs from other sites

jefft - 26-04-16

Just played the Hallelujah spoof and it's genius. Not only do the words fit the musical phrasing perfectly, but I could hardly sing for laughing out loud. Brilliant!

Announcing a new web page.

I've opened up "Andy's Ukulele Blog" in which vehicle I am going to rant on various issues appertaining to the noble ukulele.

I've put a link on the links page.

Well done everyone at the show. I enjoyed the gig yesterday and I thought we did very well alongside some really impressive and enjoyable acts. As far as one could tell from the stage the amplification worked and we could be heard twenty metres away despited the efforts of low flighpasts of the odd Spitfire and Hurricane. Just like those bombshelter singalongs in WW2.
Thank you Bob for arranging everything for the show, song sheets, passes, us!!! It was a great day and a great day for the band. Many thanks everyone. Regards Jackie

I have received thank you letters from the organisers of our last two gigs.  These are repeated below for information:

Dear Bob,
Please convey the Committee’s thanks to all your members for the wonderful entertainment you gave us during the Great British Weekend at the Village Hall.  We managed to make a small profit at this non-fund-raising event.  Therefore please find enclosed a cheque for a donation of £30 which the Committee hopes will help to cover your expenses.  We look forward to seeing you at Allington Village Hall in the future – many of those in the audience have asked to see you all again!

Many thanks and kind regards
Cathy Green, Chairman Allington Village Hall Management

Dear Bob,
Thank you so much for organising the performances of the Newark U3A Ukulele Band at the NCS on Saturday. You provided a complete contrast of mood, sound and texture. Everyone loved your unique rapport with the audience and I know that many were intrigued and utterly charmed. You certainly lived up to your Happy image and made an important contribution to our Music Marquee.
Please pass on my thanks to all your performers for making it a memorable occasion.
All good wishes,
Gabrielle Burgin Lister GRSM ARMCM PGCA
BIFF vocal/choral specialist adjudicator; voice and music consultant

As a result of these performances we have been asked if we could perform at the following:

Allington Summer Fete on Sun 11 Sep
Manners Sutton Primary School Averham Summer Fete on Sat 9 Jul.

Play list for tomorrow.  I have just put this on the web site.  In addition to those listed there are 4 from the “Songs from other sites” page.  These are:  “The glory of love”; “In the good old summertime”; “King of the Road”; “Let’s Uke Again”.  Also, included will be “Gypsy Rover” and I’ll bring along a number of copies for those who haven’t retained them from when they were issued some time back.

Diary.  The diary on the web site has been updated to reflect all gigs between now and the end of September.  I would appreciate it if you could confirm your availability to attend any of these by letting me know either at tomorrow’s meeting or by email.  Please do not respond via the web site as such emails do not always reach me.  At the moment we are very short of numbers for both of the Beaumond House events.  Also please double check your availability for the TROC BBQ as it is the 18th June not the 25th.

Looking at the playlist for today...........items 11, 12 and 13 does this mean that I will have to bring 3 copies of the 'singalong of wartime favourites' or is it that we now have 3 volumes of warsongs?.

Also, well done Bob for all you did re the NCS. I was a bit apprehensive, and dare I say slightly nervous, at the NCS. But I was in good company and my nerves quickly disappeared. I thoroughly enjoyed the gig and thanks to all those who were also performing for making it a fun day as well.  tks
